Note 8 Vs Pixel 2: Why The Galaxy Note 8 Is Still Our Favourite Phone

I love smartphones. I love them for their functionality and features that make these gadgets almost as powerful as an entry-level laptop. I love how they look and I love how they are getting larger and can still fit in my pocket. Smartphones can now last an entire day, take amazing pictures, recharge faster than ever and multi-task in a way that only makes our lives easier. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is one of those phones that has left me awestruck. It is still my favaourite Android smartphone this year and there are many reasons that solidify my opinion. It can double up as a mini computer to do office work and it is also my go-to device for reading comic books. The smartphone has a spectacular display that cannot be matched by any Android smartphone and it even has a headphone jack.

Many people will argue that the Pixel 2 is a great smartphone, but in my opinion, it still lacks a lot of features that make it the second best Android smartphone out there. The Pixel 2 is the Galaxy Note 8's strongest competitor and we are going to list down features that make the Note 8 a better phone than Google's flagship offering.

1. S Pen

The biggest advantage Samsung has over the Pixel 2 is the inclusion of a stylus that makes the experience much more fun. The stylus is great for artists to create artwork that can be shared on demand or it can be used to take notes down even when the screen is off. You can even animate your handwriting and share it as a GIF across all social media platforms and instant messaging platforms. The Google Pixel 2 does not offer any support for a stylus.

2. Display

The display design on the Note 8 is revolutionary and also far more visually appealing. It sports a 6.3-inch infinity display that has no side bezels and very narrow bezels at the top and bottom. The Note 8 also has one of the nicest, sharpest and vivid displays on any smartphone.

3. More RAM and Storage

The Note 8 offers more RAM than the Pixel 2, however, that doesn't make much of a difference due to the different operating systems. The Pixel 2 runs stock Android Oreo and does not require more than 4GB of RAM, however, the internal storage options disappointed us. The Pixel 2 XL does not offer any microSD support which gives the Note 8 a huge advantage over Google's phone.

4. Wireless Charging

Even Apple has finally adopted wireless charging into their smartphone but the Google Pixel 2 is still lagging behind. There is no support for wireless charging on Google's handset and that gives the Note 8 an upper edge over it. Wireless charging is a convenient method to charge and once you start using it, it's tough to go back to a cable.

5. Samsung Pay Is Everywhere

We live in India and Samsung is pay is virtually available at every store that uses a card machine that has NFC support. There are more retail outlets that accept Samsung pay and is a convenient way to make payments for groceries, petrol or even drinks at a bar. You can even add third-party mobile wallets such as Paytm to make it the one-stop-app for your digital payments.

6. It has a headphone jack

The removal of the headphone jack was probably the stupidest move by smartphone companies simply because it wasn't required. Audio quality from a 3.5mm headphone jack is always going to be superior to Bluetooth wireless headphones and the Pixel 2 XL loses a big point here. In fact, Google didn't even launch the Pixel Buds in India and you will always find yourself either charging a wireless headset or experiencing disconnection issues. The Galaxy Note 8 has a headphone jack and is one of the pivotal reasons why I find the Note 8 better than the Pixel 2.

7. Samsung DeX

Smartphones are used for communicating, editing images and taking pictures of your surroundings. However, there are times when you need access to a bigger screen to do things you cannot easily do on a smartphone. Samsung DeX is a brilliant accessory that effectively turns the Note 8 into a desktop computer. It can be used for making conference calls, editing documents and making presentations.
It's quite apparent that Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 has an edge over Google's Pixel 2 and we are waiting to see how Google takes their smartphones to the next level. Until then, the Galaxy Note 8 is probably the best Android smartphone available to buy today.
