Sony Details Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update Rollout for Its Devices
Sony has finally revealed which devices would be receiving the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, which has already started seeding to Google Nexus devices.
The Japanese tech firm would be rolling out the latest OS to Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua, and Xperia C4. The dual-SIM versions of these smartphones would also be included. Sony however, has not yet given a particular date or a time-frame for the rollout. The company said it is working to bring the updates as soon as possible for the eligible devices.
As one can see from the list, Sony would be leaving behind its Xperia Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra series. This means these smartphones would not be receiving any more updates after Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Sony is one of the first few tech firms to reveal which devices would be receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow. HTC last month revealed a list of HTC devices that will be receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. The smartphones that will receive the update include HTC One M9, One M8, HTC One M9+, HTC One E9, HTC One E9+, HTC One ME, HTC One (E8), HTC One (M8 Eye), Butterfly 3, HTC Desire 816, Desire 820, and Desire 826.
Motorola has also detailed the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update roadmap for its devices, confirming the Moto G (Gen 2), Moto G (Gen 2) LTE, Moto X (Gen 2), Moto X Pure Edition, Moto G (3rd Gen), Moto Maxx, Moto Turbo, Droid Turbo, Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen), Moto X Style, Moto X Play, and Google Nexus 6 will receive the latest Android version.
Separately, a leaked roadmap for a large range of Android OEMs made its way to the Internet earlier this week, tipping update details for manufacturers like Samsung, Asus, Huawei, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.
Google on Monday released the factory images of the latest versionof its mobile operating system for a handful of Nexus devices - Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 9, Nexus 9 LTE, Nexus 7(2013), Nexus 7 (2013) 3G, and Nexus Player - and announced the OTA rollout had begun.
