Xiaomi Mi 5, Redmi Note 3 to Be Available Without Registrations in India

Chinese conglomerate Xiaomi has announced that it is ditching the flash sale model for selling both the Mi 5 and the Redmi Note 3. From June 1, it will make the smartphones available on Mi India website for purchase without registrations.

The move follows an announcement by Hugo Barra at Google I/O 2016, where he told Gadgets 360 that Xiaomi was looking to increase production of the Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3 for India to address the strong demand for the smartphone in the country.

This means that users will not have to register for a flash sale in order to buy a Mi 5 or Redmi Note 3 smartphone. From Wednesday 10.00am IST onwards, interested buyers can just head over to the Mi.com website, and purchase the smartphones (if in stock) without much hassle.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 was launched in late-March, and is priced at Rs. 24,999. To recap on the specs, the Mi 5 runs on Android Lollipop with MIUI 7 on top. The dual-SIM smartphone features a 5.15-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) with curved 3D Ceramic glass, and a pixel density of 428ppi.

The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, paired with 3GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. For optics there is a 16-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX298 sensor, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), OIS, sapphire glass protection, 4K video support, and LED flash. It also sports a 4-megapixel selfie camera, with f/2.0 aperture. The built-in storage capacity is 32GB, and the Mi 5 packs a 3000mAh battery that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 on the other hand was launched in India in March with a special Snapdragon 650 variant. The Redmi Note 3 is available in two RAM and storage versions - one including 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage, and other 3GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage. The 2GB variant is priced at Rs. 9,999, while the 3GB variant is priced at Rs. 11,999.

It runs MIUI 7 based on Android Lollipop and supports dual 4G SIM cards (Micro + Nano). The handset packs a 4050mAh battery with fast charging support that can charge up to 50 percent in 1 hour. On the camera front, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and two-tone flash. It also houses a 5-megapixel front camera.
