Huawei Mate 9 Won't Launch on September 1, Reveals Executive: Report

Huawei is hosting a pre-IFA event on September 1, where it was heavily expected to unveil the Mate 9 smartphone. However, a company executive has now confirmed that this won't be the case. The company is not unveiling the Huawei Mate 8 successor at the event in Berlin.

Huawei's mobile product line manager Bruce Lee, speaking to GizmoChina, revealed the company would not launch the Huawei Mate 9 so early. The Mate 8 was unveiled in November last year, and Huawei will
stick to its one year cycle.

The Mate 9 has been subjected to quite a few leaks as well recently, and is expected to come with home-grown Kirin 960 octa-core chipset, and sport a 20-megapixel rear camera setup. In any case, speculations of what could be launched at the event have started again. The Huawei Mate 8 with Force
Touch display was spotted on Tenaa recently, and the Chinese telecommunications giant could possibly launch just that.

The company is also expected to launch tablets and wearables at the event, but no specifics on that front yet. Huawei is also rumoured to be working on its own operating system, to let go of its dependence on Google's Android. The project, however, is said to be in its early stages, so an unveiling in September is unlikely.
