LG G5 Launch Set for February 21, Ahead of MWC 2016
LG last month sent out invites for its MWC 2016 keynote event. However, it did not mention what device or service it will be showing. The South Korean tech giant has now confirmed that it will be unveiling its flagship smartphone - the LG G5 - on February 21, ahead of MWC 2016, which lasts from February 22 to February 25.
LG Mobile on Wednesday posted a gif image on its Facebook page that says "Come meet the new friends on the playground. LG G5 Day." The keynote is scheduled for February 21, the same day when Samsung is set to announce its flagship smartphones - the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. The LG G5 launch event will be held at the Sant Jordi Club in Barcelona at 2pm local time. Along with the tweet, the company has posted several images shot in the New York City with number '5' as the subject.
Until now, we've come across some LG G5 leaks and rumours that tip the smartphone's design and some features including a dual rear camera setup. The G5 is said to sport a 16-megapixel rear camera with 135-degree wide-angle view. The handset is also said to feature a ticker display, like the one we saw on the LG V10.
As per previous reports, the upcoming LG G5 will pack a 5.3-inch QHD display, which is smaller than the one seen on the LG G4 (5.5-inch). One of the most notable additions on the G5 is said to be in the form of 'Magic Slot', which is said to be linked with some kind of hardware expansion. The report adds that the "Ticker display" will sport a screen resolution of 160x1040 pixels, the same as the one found on the V10 smartphone. Some of the other rumoured innards tipped in previous reports include Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of inbuilt storage.
In addition, the handset is rumoured to sport a fingerprint scanner on the back panel just beneath the camera setup. There have been rumours about the G5 equipping a retina scanner though there are no concrete details about the feature. For battery, the G5 is rumoured to include a 2800mAh battery smaller than the 3000mAh battery seen on the G4.
For the actual availability, it has been suggested that the LG G5 may launch in the "first quarter of 2016." To recall, the LG G4 was unveiled in April this year.
